On the 12th of November, I travelled back to my home away from home: Nottingham.
I studied at Nottingham Trent University, and since 2022, I have been an alumni fellow, and sat on their Biosciences Employer Advisory Board. This trip was to take my seat on the board for the third time. This board plays an important part of student development, as employers from across the bioscience sector come together and talk about what they’re looking for in graduates, and new hires.

In this board meeting, we were shown the impact of our contributions, and we talked about the areas we were missing. There were in-depth round table discussions about barriers to employment, how students can market themselves to employers, the impact of socio-economic status, equality and diversity, and the hard skills we need graduates to showcase. We talked about how we as employers could provide work-like experience to students in the coming year, and shared ideas as a group.
In summary, this was a fantastic and rewarding session, with the goal of looking forward to further improve the NTU student experience. I can’t wait for the next one!
