LGBT+ History Month runs in February every year in the UK, and this year I was invited to deliver a webinar for West Midlands Combined Authority.
The theme for this year’s history month is Science & Technology, so I was asked to talk about my career journey, and my experiences as a queer person in STEM. I also decided to incorporate some elements from my keynote last year, confessions of a queer scientist.
After the talk, there were lots of questions and discussion points. One participant wanted to know how best to support a young trans relative, and another participant asked what the toughest part of my journey was. We all talked about how far society has come, and how much further we have still to go. The overall call to action was to practice kindness, and be open minded.
