Something quite unbelievable has happened to me… I have been featured alongside 80 Deaf role models featured in a new board game called See It Be It 🥹
This game showcases to Deaf children and young people the huge range of jobs that Deaf people can do, and empowers them to chase their goals. The role models range from scientists (me!), to accountants, to fashion designers, to vet nurses, to doctors, to advisors, to authors, to… everyone! Toy Like Me has done a fantastic job of showcasing people from a huge range of professions.
The game itself is fun, and quite competitive too! Choose your board, and hope you can find the right tokens that match your professions. Equal parts luck and memory, and a game full of hope in so many ways.
What’s more, is thanks to grant funding, Toy Like Me have gifted over 850 games free to Teachers of the Deaf across the UK!! This ensures that Deaf people will be inspired from a young age, within their own classrooms.
I am SO proud to have been included.
From my initial 1308 days of unemployment straight out of university, in part due to my being Deaf, to feeling like an imposter in my first job, to proudly showing up as a Deaf and disabled scientist every day, I really feel like I’m dreaming. Hard work and determination pays off!
I also love that my icon is a microscope 🔬
