What’s On?

Welcome to my world of disability advocacy, where every day is different. It is a pleasure to share this journey, and showcase the world of science, disability, and queerness. As a disability advocate, my work in outreach takes me all over the country, and I am just starting to dip my toes into international advocacy. Join me on this journey, where you don’t have to worry about any of the travel plans. Just sit back, read, and enjoy.

  • If someone told me at the start of my career that I would end up on a magazine cover, I would have laughed until I cried. However, as it turns out, it’s not such an absurd thought. In summer, I was delighted to be on the cover of Kidz to Adultz magazine. This magazine showcases…

  • May 15th is Global Accessibility Awareness Day, or GAAD for short. While GAAD was nearly 6 months ago, accessibility is an everyday principle. • In May, I was chosen as the Deaf Unity’s monthly role model! The team at Deaf Unity asked me some really cool questions that I haven’t been asked before, for which I hope I gave really cool answers… I got to talk about my career journey with hearing loss, and coming to the Deaf community…

  • Back in April, I was fortunate to be invited back to Nottingham Trent University’s Bioscience Degree Showcase to judge this year’s poster presentations, and share my career journey with students 🧬 I attended 4 sessions, and was invited to choose winners from 3 of those sessions. Don’t worry, the remaining session was well looked after…

  • Back in March, Cathy Reay released her first book, called How To Be Disabled And Proud (Or At Least Kinda Sorta OK With It). I am delighted to have been one of the disabled people interviewed for the book, sharing my experiences, and showing disabled kids that it’s OK to be themselves. The book focuses…

  • British Science Week takes place in March, and is a celebration of science, research, development, and innovation. The theme for 2025 was “Change and Adapt”. • From 31st March to 2nd April, I attended Europe’s Inaugural Minoritised Life Scientists Future Forum, where I volunteered in its running, delivered a workshop on disability in STEM, and was one of the judges for the poster presentations. Never a dull moment, right? There were so many incredible sessions, and it was truly an honour…

  • In February, the day after LGBTQ, STEM, and You, I was delighted to deliver a second keynote speech for Bedford’s LGBT+ History Month event. The event took place at The Drum in Wembley Park, where we gathered together as disabled people to celebrate each other’s…

  • Across October and November I have been working with the Rochdale Science Initiative to bring science to Rochdale’s Deaf Community. October’s session had me teaching the group about how DNA works, with the group learning about DNA, Transcription, Translation, and amino acids. With the help of two lovely British Sign Language (BSL) interpreters, I started…

  • On the 12th of November, I travelled back to my home away from home: Nottingham. I studied at Nottingham Trent University, and since 2022, I have been an alumni fellow, and sat on their Biosciences Employer Advisory Board. This trip was to take my seat on the board for the third time. This board plays…

  • Welcome to my shiny new website! It’s still a work in progress, but this space will become a hub for disability outreach, druid stuff, drag performances, and the intersection of all three.
